SAN JOSE, Calif. — Brazil secured a historic 2-1 victory over the United States Women’s National Team on Thursday night, marking the first-ever win by a CONMEBOL team against the U.S. on American soil.

The match, held at PayPal Park, showcased Brazil's resilience and tactical prowess which proved too much for the U.S. to overcome.

Forward Catarina Macario scored the lone goal for the U.S., that tally coming just 34 seconds into the match marking the seventh fastest goals from the opening whistle in USWNT history.

The goal came after forward Alyssa Thompson played a give-and-go to Macario near midfield and raced into the Brazil penalty box where her shot was blocked as she collided with Brazil goalkeeper Natascha, who couldn’t corral the ball. Macario was able to latch onto the loose ball and rolled it home from close range for a dream start.

The U.S. could not add to the early momentum.

Brazil responded with increased pressure and effective counterattacks. Kerolin's equalizer in the 24th minute of a pass from Giovanni highlighted defensive lapses in the U.S. backline, and Brazil continued to exploit these weaknesses throughout the match.

The match remained tied 1-1 at the half.

Brazil outshot the U.S. by a narrow 19-18 margin, including 7-5 with shots on goal, but both struggled with finishing.

Amanda Guiterres scored five minutes into stoppage time at the end of the second half, finishing off a feed from Luany for the go-ahead and game-winning tally.

Brazilian goalkeeper Natascha played a pivotal role, making four crucial saves to maintain her team's advantage. On the U.S. side, goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn had a mixed debut, displaying strong distribution skills but facing challenges in shot-stopping and decision-making under pressure. She finished with five saves for the U.S.

The loss serves as a learning opportunity for the USWNT, as head coach Emma Hayes continues to evaluate player performances and team dynamics ahead of future competitions.
