DETROIT – Detroit City Football Club announced Wednesday that USL W League head coach David Dwaihy will return for the 2025 season.
This will be his third season on the touchline for the USL W League side after guiding the team to its best-ever season in 2024, playing to a record of 12-2-1 with the only loss coming in the national semifinal to Colorado Storm FC.
The 2024 USL W League season was the best for any amateur side in the history of Detroit City Football Club, with the team going 14 matches unbeaten en route to the USL W League National Semifinal. On the way there, Detroit City FC defeated 2023 national champion Indy Eleven to win its first trophy on the women’s side, claiming the 2024 USL W League Central Conference title.
Dwaihy, one of the five founders of Detroit City FC, has been instrumental in the club’s growth since its first year in 2012. There is no better example of this than all of the different hats that he has worn in his time with the club. While being a co-owner, he also appeared in competitive matches for the club in the first six years of its existence, 2012-2017, picking up several Man of the Match awards along the way. In total, Dwaihy made 13 competitive appearances for Le Rouge, scoring two goals and registering two assists.
In addition to playing, Dwaihy has also represented the club on matchday broadcasts, sharing his vast knowledge of the game with those watching at home and always being a great representative for the club and the city of Detroit. Most recently, Dwaihy appeared on the MASL W League indoor broadcasts.
Dwaihy’s first season as head coach in 2023 saw the squad finish third in the Great Lakes Division of the USL W League, with a record of 5-3-4.
Dwaihy has been coaching boys soccer and girls soccer teams at Grosse Pointe Woods (Mich.) University-Liggett High School since the fall of 2002 either as an assistant or head coach. He took over the head coaching position for the girls soccer team in 2009 and the boys soccer team in 2016. Dwaihy is also a math teacher at University-Liggett.
More information about the 2025 USL W League roster, coaching staff, and more will be revealed in the coming weeks. The full 2025 USL W League schedule can be found here.
