FLINT, Mich. – Donavan Phillip is returning to the state of Michigan – albeit he will be wearing a different uniform.
The Flint City Bucks announced the signing Sunday of Phillip for the upcoming 2025 USL League Two season, pending league and federation approval.
Phillip, a forward and midfielder at North Carolina State University, was drafted 62nd overall by Colorado Rapids Soccer Club in December’s 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) SuperDraft. The Rapids will own the rights for Phillip, who is expected to return to North Carolina State this August for his junior collegiate season.
As a sophomore with the Wolfpack, Phillip appeared in 19 matches and helped North Carolina State reach the NCAA Division I Tournament Round of 16. Phillip tallied six goals, including two in the NCAA tourney, and added four assists in 1,172 minutes of action.
The native of Castries, Saint Lucia, Phillip previously gained USL League Two experience with the Bucks’ divisional rival Kalamazoo FC last summer. His nine goals were the second-most by one player in the Great Lakes Division during the 2024 season.
Phillip’s family resides in Murrysville, Pennsylvania, while he spent his junior and senior days at Saltsburg (Pa.) Kiski Prep. He played two varsity seasons for Kiski Prep, where he collected 27 goals and 11 assists in 2021 and 27 goals and eight assists in 2022. His Cougars posted a combined 30-4-1 record during the two seasons he competed for the prestigious private school, and he earned numerous postseason honors during his junior and senior seasons for his efforts.
After graduation, Phillip headed to Michigan to begin his collegiate career at NCAA Division I Oakland University of the Horizon League. He was named to the All-Horizon League Freshman Team and All-Horizon League Second Team after scoring five goals with seven assists for 17 points. He scored a team-and Horizon co-leading three game-winning goals in the fall of 2023 for a team that captured the regular season Horizon League championship but fell in the Horizon League Championship tournament finals.
In early 2024, Phillip transferred to the Atlantic Coast Conference to play for North Carolina State. He still competed for Michigan-based Kalamazoo FC of the USL League Two last May through July.
The Flint City Bucks are one of the most storied programs in the USL League Two history on the amateur/pre-professional circuit, winning four North American titles with several other national runner-up and final Four teams to its credit.
Flint City Bucks and Flint City AFC (women’s) season tickets for the summer 2025 season are on sale now. Visit flintcitybucks.com to join the Flint City family today. Fans can also follow the team on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
