SEASIDE, Calif. – Monterey Bay FC announced on Thursday the club had signed defender Miles Lyons to a one-year contract ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season with an option for the 2026 campaign.

The transaction is pending league and federation approval.

Lyons joins Locomotive having spent the past three seasons with fellow USL Championship club El Paso Locomotive FC, recording 59 appearances across the regular season and playoffs. The 22-year-old full back has notched two goals, three assists and 20 chances created in 3,232 minutes of action while also winning 42 tackles at a 65.6 percent success rate while making 35 interceptions and 111 recoveries.

“Miles is a player with a lot of athleticism, versatility, and a good soccer IQ,” said Monterey Bay FC Head Coach Jordan Stewart. “He’s quick, works hard on both ends of the field, is good in 1-v-1 duels, and can contribute in attack and defense. Fans can expect him to bring a lot of energy and will enjoy his ability to cover ground out wide.”

Prior to joining the professional ranks, Lyons had previously competed for Barça Residency Academy in his home state of Arizona. He earned numerous accolades in the U.S. Soccer Development Academy and MLS NEXT, helping lead the Academy’s U19 team to back-to-back Southwest Division titles and consecutive MLS NEXT Playoffs berths.

“I can’t wait to get the season underway with this team and this coaching staff,” said Lyons. “I think that we have a great mix of youth and experience in the squad. Coach Jordan emphasizes possession and values players expressing themselves on the ball, which is what has caught my eye the most.

“Even though I am on the younger side of things, I am working towards being a player that can lead through positivity, work rate, and performances on the field. I think that with the right mentality, we can qualify for the playoffs and make a deep run in the competition. I’m looking forward to getting started and competing with the boys.”
