HARTFORD, Conn. – Hartford Athletic announced on Tuesday the club had signed goalkeeper Antony Siaha ahead of the 2025 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval.
Siaha joins Hartford having most recently competed for Monterey Bay FC, where this past season he tied for the Championship lead with 102 saves in the regular season at a save percentage of 74.5 percent. The 6-foot-5 shot-stopper has recorded all 58 of his appearances in the Championship for Monterey Bay, having joined the side from San Diego Loyal SC midway through the 2022 season.
“We are thrilled to bring Antony to Hartford,” said Head Coach and General Manager Brendan Burke. “He is a commanding presence in goal, both physically and vocally, with a proven ability to make game-changing saves in high-pressure situations. His experience and leadership will be invaluable to our backline, and we’re excited to see him in action this season.”
After the surprise departure of Renan Ribeiro this preseason, Hartford Athletic has his potential replacement in Antony Siaha after his departure from Indy Eleven, where Siaha had previously signed this offseason, only to be caught in a crowded goalkeeper room that also features returning loanee Hunter Sulte and Grenada international Reice Charles-Cook.
In terms of replacements, Siaha has the characteristics to match up reasonably well in Ribeiro’s stead. In 58 appearances in the Championship he’s logged 207 saves and a save percentage of 73.8 percent while never dropping below 73 percent overall in a single campaign. Most impressively, Siaha has a current Goals Prevented mark of -6.5 for his career in the Championship, allowing 73 goals on a 79.5 Expected Goals on Target mark while at Monterey Bay.
That last metric was where Ribeiro shone for Hartford a season ago, and where Siaha needs to ensure there’s little drop-off for a side aiming to build on the positive direction its 2024 season delivered.
