U.S. LAMAR HUNT OPEN CUP: LA Galaxy II routs Laguna United in opening round; Westchester SC, Greenville, Foro, FC Naples, FC Tulsa all advance to second round

CARSON, Calif. – Aaron Bibout netted the hat trick Tuesday but he wasn’t the only one doing the work and basking in the glory.


Bibout and his LA Galaxy II side routed Launa United 7-0 in the opening round of the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup at Dignity Health Sports Park.


Ascel Essengue, Jason Bucknor, Luis Muller and Ben Nicholson also scored for LA Galaxy II. Muller contributed two assists while Vincente Garcia and Bucknor added one helper apiece in the seven-goal outburst.


Brady Scott notched the shutout for LA Galaxy II.


The Galaxy II outshot Laguna 24-8 overall, including 13-1 with shots on frame, and even held a 7-2 edge off cornerkicks. The time of possession was 71-29 percent in favor of LA Galaxy II.


With the lopsided win, the LA Galaxy II advance to the second round at a date and time to be determined.


WESTCHESTER SC 1, MOTOWN 0: Juan Carlos Obregon scored in the 81st minute and Westchester SC edged Motown in this shutout Tuesday in the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup first-round game at MSU Soccer Park in Little Falls, N.J.


GREEENVILLE TRIUMPH SC 1, ASHEVILLE CITY 0 (4-3 on penalties): Greenville Triumph SC held a 16-8 overall shots edge Tuesday but had to go into a shootout to edge Ashville City to advance to the second round of the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Greenville also held a 3-2 edge with shots on goal and also held a narrow 7-6 difference off cornerkicks. Seth Torman notched the clean sheet on the strength of two saves.


FORO 2, TEXOMA FC 1: Brayan Padilla scored late in the first half and notched the late game-winner in the 99th minute during overtime as Foro prevailed in the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup first round. Foro held a 15-13 shots edge in the contest where both team garnered a red card. Gonzolo Santa Martinez picked up the win in goal after stopping four of the five shots on frame he faced.


FC NAPLES 2, SARASOTA PARADISE 1: Karsen Henderlong scored in the 79th minute and Kevin O’Connor netted the game-winner one minute into stoppage time to lift FC Naples to the first-round win in the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup Javier Salgado scored for Sarasota, which was issued a red card in the seventh minute of stoppage time and could not score an equalizer. FC Naples outshot Sarasota 14-10 and also held a 3-1 advantage off cornerkicks.


FC TULSA 1, TULSA ATHLETIC 0: Taylor Calheira came through in the clutch in the 84th minute with the game’s only tally, and the FC Tulsa defense made it stand as it advanced to the second round of the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup. Joha Penaranda notched the shutout on five saves. FC Tulsa outshot crosstown foe Tulsa Athletic 16-8, including 8-5 with shots on goal.


CHATTANOOGA RED WOLVES 2, NJ ALLIANCE 2 (4-2 on penalties): Chattanooga had to venture through two overtime periods and a shootout to edge NJ Alliance Tuesday in the first round of the U.S. Lamar Hunt Open Cup. The Red Wolves held a 4-2 advantage on PKs to gain the upper hand. Matt Bentley scored both goals for Chattanooga, which played down a man after a 36th minute red card. Marlon Kyle Preciado scored in stoppage time at the end of the first half, while Joel Quist leveled the game at 2-2 two minutes into stoppage time at the end of regulation to force overtime.
