MICHIGAN GIRLS SOCCER: Ypsilanti Community holds off Taylor Prep; Dexter blanks rival Chelsea; Marian drubs Salem

TAYLOR, Mich. – Four different players scored goals and Ypsilanti Community opened up the 2025 season Wednesday with a 4-3 non-conference triumph over host Taylor Prep.


Sophomore London Arnett had a goal and an assist, junior Nargis Seraji contributed a goal and two assists, sophomore Aubrey Wilbanks recorded a goal and an assist and junior Lyla Gazal scored tor the Grizzlies.


Senior Addy Reynolds-Talent recorded the win in goal for Ypsilanti (1-0-0).


The Grizzlies are looking to improve upon a 8-10-3 season in 2024, including a fourth-place finish in the Southeastern Conference-White Division last season (2-6-2).


Taylor Prep slips to 0-1-0.


DEXTER 2, CHELSEA 0: Dexter finally opened the season Wednesday at home with this 2-0 shutout of rival Chelsea. Senior midfielders Kendall Cabana and Alexis Roller scored the goals and Cabana drew an assist for the Dreadnaughts (1-0-0) in the Southeastern Conference crossover match. Dexter had a really young team last season and only finished 9-9-2 overall. The Dradnaughts were actually outscored 49-35 last year but benefitted from being down in MHSAA Division 2, where they still captured a district championship.


BIRMINGHAM MARIAN 5, SALEM 1: Freshman Emma Wyciskalla continued her torrid pace with two goals and an assist Wednesday and MArian improved to 5-1-0 on the young season with this non-league victory over the Rocks, Division 1 state semifinalists last season.Clare Dauer, Giulianna and Brook Salkowski also scored while Jillian Joseph, Abby Walton and Francesca Kulpa drew assists in the contest. Freshman Olivia Bussa notched the win with fine defensive support from center backs Nadia Valka and Lily Robinson.
