HARTLAND, Mich. – Last June Hartland made a run to the Division 1 state finals before falling to Rochester Adams 2-0 on the final day of the season.

On Wednesday to kick off the 2025 season, the Eagles returned to their winning ways with a 5-0 shutout of visiting Fenton. Hartland finished 16-4-3 last season, recorded nine shutouts, and outscored its opposition 60-23 en route to one of its best all-time campaigns.

Claire L’esperance and Addie Frantti – two of the top returning talents this season – both recorded the brace and added an assist apiece in the rout. Emma Storm also scored, while Jenna Brock recorded the shutout in goal for the Eagles.

Hartland captured the Kensington Lakes Activities Association-West Division crown last year to go along with its district and regional titles. The program captured the Division 1 state title back in 2021.

EAST GRAND RAPIDS 6, MUSKEGON REETHS-PUFFER 0: EGR outshot Reeths-Puffer 22-2 and converted five of those chances in posting the season-opening victory in an OKC crossover game.

Reese Lynn netted the hattrick in the win. Henry Maher added a goal and an assist and Avery Leete also scored for the Pioneers.

Sara Carlson stopped 16 shots in a losing effort for the Rockets.

SALINE 7, TRENTON 0: Saline was one of the top teams in the state in Division 1 each of the last two seasons. That should continue this spring.

The host Hornets – listed as a team to watch on the National Soccer Network’s High School Girls Soccer Rankings Show (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y33ig-KePmk) last Sunday, as offered by the Michigan High School Soccer Coaches Association – wasted no time in opening up their season with a convincing win over a program that reached the Division 2 regional finals last season.

Sadie Walsh netted the hat trick and Kaylee Mitzel earned the shutout of the Trojans for Saline.

The Hornets outscored their opposition 93-12 last season with 10 shutouts but came up short in the state tournament by losing in the Division 1 district finals to Ann Arbor Skyline, 1-0.

ROCHESTER 4, OKEMOS 0: District finalists the last four seasons, Rochester got off to fast start Wednesday at Cleary College in Howell with this non-conference victory over Okemos.

Lucia Errecalde scored twice, while Stella Marlow and Kiely Robinson also scored for the Falcons.

Rochester finished a respectable 11-7-3 last season playing a tough schedule. The Falcons saw their season come to an end in a 1-0 shootout loss to eventual Division 1 state champion Rochester Adams in last year’s district finals.

FLAT ROCK 5, RIVERVIEW GABRIEL RICHARD 0: Flat Rock opened the 2025 campaign in fine fashion Wednesday, blanking Gabriel Richard at Marvin Mittlestat Field. Megan Woelkers notched four goals in the shutout, while Elyse Rogier also scored for Flat Rock.

TROY ATHENS 1, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 0: The Red Hawks opened the year with this narrow shutout victory over the Tars. Lauren DeJonckheere scored the goal for Athens.
