TOWSON, Md. – The Baltimore Blast scored three straight goals during a third quarter outburst and cruised to an 8-5 victory Sunday over the Dallas Sidekicks at TU Arena.
Clinging to a 5-4 advantage at the half, the Blast (9-1-0) tacked on the three goals in the third period to go up 8-4 before the Sidekicks (3-8-0) were able to put one into the net late in the third stanza to cap the scoring.
Jesus Pacheco’s unassisted goal at 4:46 mark of the third period kickstarted the run, followed by goals from Juan Pereira at 9:04 and Chad Poarch at 14:26 to put the host Blast up 8-4.
Dallas picked up a goal from Esai Romero at the 14:55 mark right at the end of the third quarter to trim the deficit down to 8-5, but neither team could find the back of the net in the fourth stanza and Baltimore settled for the three-goal win.
Pacheco ended with the hattrick on the night and staked the hosts to a 1-0 advantage just 1:11 into the first quarter.
The Sidekicks answered at 6:50 of the first courtesy of a goal by Anthony Powell.
The game remained level for about 2:56 before Jonatas Melo put Baltimore up for good at 9:46 and that was followed up by a tally from Wellington Bramusse at 11:03.
Fabian Cruz pulled the Sidekicks to within 3-2 at 11:47 but Dallas could never muster enough of a rally to tie the score.
In the second quarter, Pacheco struck again with a goal at 7:08 for a 4-2 advantage, only to see Dallas trim the deficit back to one goal when David Balyeat ripped one into the back of the goal at 9:10 to bring the Sidekicks to within 4-3.
Bramusse scored for Baltimore (10:29) and Balyeat at 13:13 of the second for Dallas to bring the Sidekicks to within 5-4 at the half. That was close as Dallas could get the rest of the evening.
The Sidekicks return home on Thursday, Jan. 30 to host the Kansas City Comets, kicking off a challenging stretch of three home games in four days. On Sunday, Dallas will face the Texas Outlaws for the first time this season, followed by a matchup against Utica the next day. Tickets for all three games are on sale now at www.DallasSidekicks.com/Tickets or by calling our office at 469-393-0160.
Baltimore visits the Milwaukee Wave on Feb. 1 for a 7:05 p.m. kickoff.
