MASL: Tacoma Stars, Milwaukee Wave each have three players receiving disciplinary punishments for Jan. 18 altercation

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The Major Arena Soccer League has released the following statement and discipline regarding the incident between the Tacoma Stars and Milwaukee Wave on Jan. 18.


A total of six players, including three from each side, were involved in altercation in the arena that has resulted in numerous penalties, fines and suspensions from the six players listed below.


After a thorough investigation, the MASL’s Commissioner’s Office and the Disciplinary Review Committee have reached the following decisions regarding the incidents:


TACOMA STARS:


Roman Torres: Issued a post-game red card for violent conduct resulting in an undisclosed fine, two (2) penalty points and a one-game suspension – to be served immediately on Jan. 25, 2025.


Luis Birrueta: Due to post-game violent conduct, Birrueta is being issued a one-game suspension, two penalty points and an undisclosed fine. The one-game suspension will be served immediately on Jan. 25, 2025.


Stefan Mijatovic: Issued a four-game suspension as a result of his in-game and postgame conduct, and for making unprofessional, offensive and abusive language/comments in-game and post-game. In addition to the four-game suspension, which will be served immediately, and due to the fact that Stefan Mijatovic was previously put on a league probation, Mijatovic will also be issued an undisclosed fine, two penalty points and will need to complete an anger management course and provide the league with a certificate of completion.


MILWAUKEE WAVE:


Tenzin Rampa: Issued a post-game second yellow card for Severe Unsportsmanlike Manner resulting in an undisclosed fine, two penalty points and a two- game suspension – to be served immediately on Jan. 25 and Jan. 26, 2025.


Derek Huffman: Issued a postgame red card for violent conduct resulting in an undisclosed fine and two penalty points. Due to Huffman's probationary status, he received an additional one-game suspension resulting in a total of two-game suspension – to be served immediately on Jan. 25. and Jan. 26, 2025.


Qudus Lawal: Due to post-game Severe Unsportsmanlike Manner, Lawal is being issued a one-game suspension, two penalty points and an undisclosed fine. The one-game suspension will be served immediately on Jan. 25, 2025.


All MASL players, staff, and league personnel are expected to always demonstrate professionalism and self-discipline, regardless of whether extenuating circumstances exist.
