MILWAUKEE – David Stankovic played the role of hero.

Stankovic scored just 1:08 into overtime Saturday, as the visiting Texas Outlaws recorded a statement win with a 7-6 decision over the host Milwaukee Wave in front of 4,426 fans at UW-Milwaukee Panthers Arena.

Stankovic finished the night with two goals and an assist with the game-winning tally coming unassisted in the early stages of the extra session.

Milwaukee had forced overtime with a pair of late fourth-quarters goals with six attackers on the field. Mario Alvarez scored at 13:54 of the fourth, while Ian Bennett’s tally at 14:51 was in just a nick of time but good enough to force overtime at a 6-6 deadlock.

Texas never trailed in the match, earning a 3-1 advantage by the halftime break. Tyler Bagley finished off a pass from Stankovic at the 5:00 mark to set the tone and open up a 1-0 advantage.

Although Sanchez equalized the contest for Milwaukee at 14:28 of the first period, Stankovic gave the Outlaws a 2-1 advantage at the 5:13 mark of the second stanza and VcMor Eligwe pushed the lead up to 3-1 with his goal at 6:04 of the second quarter.

Milwaukee outshot the Outlaws 25-9 in the first half but still trailed by a pair of goals at the break.

Steven Chavez gave the Outlaws their biggest lead of the game at 4-1 at 4:38 of the third quarter before the Wave were able to slowly come back on their guests.

Troy Morrison cur the deficit down to 4-2 with his goal at 5:28 of the third stanza only to see the Outlaws go up again by three goals, this time with Erik Macias finding the back of the net at 9:02 of the third period.

The Wave began to mount its comeback by scoring four of the last five goals of regulation.

Breno Oliveira (9:11 of the third) and Max Ferdinand (18 seconds into the fourth quarter) helped bring Milwaukee to within 5-4.

Tayler Bagley sandwiched in a goal at 10:10 of the fourth frame to put Texas up 6-4, only to see Alvarez and Bennett scored their two goals in the final 1:06 of regulation to earn some overtime.

The Wave could not ride the late momentum during the extra session.

Despite the loss, Milwaukee held a 48-17 overall shots edge in the contest. Texas converted on 41.2 percent of its shots, while the Wave only finished off 12.5 percent of its shot attempts.
