BRAIDWOOD, Ill. – The case of it’s not how you start but how you finish rang true Wednesday evening.

After trailing 1-0 at the half, Braidwood Reed-Custer rallied past visiting Ottawa 4-1 in a non-conference girls soccer matchup after trailing 1-0 at the half.

Audora Haake scored twice and added an assist as part of the Comets’ four unanswered goals in the second half. Hailey Compton added a goal and an assist and Gwen Stewart also scored for Reed-Custer (1-1-0).

Maggie Dockery recorded 17 saves in 18 chances for Reed-Custer. Natalie Flores starred defensively for the Comets.

Ayla Covalsky scored for Ottawa (0-1-0) off an assist from Avery Cap to gain the upper hand at the half. Shaelyn Miller made six saves in 10 chances for the Pirates.

Both teams traded off 22 total shots with Ottawa holding an 18-10 edge with shots on goal.

GRAYSLAKE CENTRAL 2, CARMEL 0: A goal at the end of the first half and a second goal at the beginning stages of the second half proved to be all the offense the Rams would need in recording this win Wednesday.

Senior Dahila Rodriguez, a returning All-State player, retrieved a long pass from Peyton Hoffman and booted home the eventual game-winner in the 40th minute.

Freshman Guerrier scored her first goal in the 42nd minute off a set piece from Emma Peterson to cap the scoring.

Sophomore goalkeeper Karlee Sinter recorded the shutout for the Rams (1-1-0).

The Corsairs dropped to 0-2-0 overall.
