ILLINOIS GIRLS SOCCER: Champaign Central soars past Mt. Zion; Roxana edges Greenville; Plainfield Central, Chicago Latin cruise

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. – Four different players scored goals Friday and Champaign Central routed Mt. Zion 7-0 in Illinois non-conference girls soccer action.


Sophomore Riley Schultze finished the night with three goals and two assists to lead the way for the Maroons.


Caroline Blount added two goals. Chloe Sikora and Halle Roberts had single tallies and one assist apiece Elizabeth Liay Von Bodman had two assists and Maya McCaffrey picked up one assist for Champaign Central.


Junior Eve O’Brien made just one save to record the clean sheet in goal for the Maroons, who moved to 3-0-0 on the young season with a 25-0 scoring edge. O’Brien has three shutouts so far this year for Champaign Central, which already defeated Charleston (9-0) and Urbana University School (9-0) during the past week.

ROXANA 1, GREENVILLE 0: Kylee Sladen scored off an assist from Gianna Stassi in the first half and the Shells defense stood tall down the stretch to preserve the non-league win. Genna Pruett notched the shutout on the strength of five saves for Roxana (3-2-0). Maddie Beckert finished with seven saves for Greenville (4-2-0).


PLAINFIELD CENTRAL 1, AURORA WAUBONSIE VALLEY 0: First-half goal was the difference as the Wildcats recorded the narrow win Friday. Karen Schoen scored for Plainfield Central (3-1-1), which owns a 18-4 scoring edge after five games. 


CHICAGO LATIN 9, CHICAGO BRITISH INTERNATIONAL SCHOOL 1: Latin scored two goals in the first half and exploded for seven more tallies in the second half. Lauren Rosenberg led the way with two goals and one assist to pace the Romans (2-0-0).


CARLINVILLE 8, RIVERTON TRI-CITY 0: The Cavaliers opened up a quick two-goal lead in the first half and cruises to the non-conference victory Friday. Carlinville improves to 2-1-0 with the win.


BEECHER 5, WILMINGTON 3: Beecher outscored visiting Wilmington in both halves Friday to gain the non-league win. The Bobcats led 3-2 at the half and outscored the Wildcats 2-1 in the second half to prevail. Alaina Clark scored twice and Audrey Powlick added a goal for Wilmington, which actually held a 11-3 edge off cornerkicks but could not pull even with Beecher.


AUBURN 6, VIRDEN NORTH MAC 1: Visiting Auburn scored three goals in each half and prevailed in the Route 66 Kickoff Classic first round contest Friday. The Trojans improved to 3-2-0 overall  with a 22-8 scoring edge.


EDWARDSVILLE 1, NAPERVILLE NORTH 0: Edwardsville picked up the non-league victory Friday thanks to a second-half goal from Claire Nieroda. The Tigers moved to 3-2-0 this season, while the Huskies fell to 2-1-1. 


SPRINGFIELD 8, FLORISSANT (MO.) GATEWAY LEGACY CHRISTIAN 0: The Senators scored four goals in each half and cruised to the semifinals win in the Quincy Tournament Friday.


MARION 8, MT. VERNON 0: The Wildcats scored early and often in this non-league rout Friday to remain perfect on the year. Marion is 4-0-0 this season within an impressive 26-2 scoring edge. Kali Wallace and Carleigh Midgett both scored twice for Marion. Mt. Vernon slipped to 1-4-0 with the loss.


CARBONDALE 7, ANNA-JONESBORO-COBDEN UNIFIED 0: Carbondale scored three goals in the first half and tacked on four more after halftime in recording this shutout of the Wildcats. The Terriers improved to 2-3-0 on the young season.


LINCOLN 2, GILLESPIE 1: Lincoln opened up a 2-0 halftime advantage and held on for the win in the Route 66 Kickoff Classic at Virden North Mac. Lincoln moved to 3-4-0 with the win and advanced to the second round of the tournament.


HOMEWOOD-FLOSSMOOR 2, MIDLOTHIAN BREMEN 0: Homewood-Flossmoor improved to 2-2-1 with this narrow win Friday in non-league play.
