GIRLS SOCCER: Gladwin blanks Houghton Lake; Garber edges Freeland in TVC; Bad Axe, Clinton, Eisenhower cruise to wins

GLADWIN, Mich. — Madi Lockwood recorded the brace Monday and Gladwin tripped up Houghton Lake 7-0 Monday in Jack Pine Conference play. 


This is the first year that the JPC has played a conference schedule for soccer.


A sophomore, Lockwood added an assist and the Flying G’s, Cassiday Dawson added a goal and an assist and Gladwin had five different goal scorers on the night.


Freshman Brielle McKinnon notched her team’s second clean sheet of the season, as Gladwin improved to 3-1-0 overall and in the JPC. The Flying G’s hold a 17-2 scoring edge this season.


ESSEXVILLE GARBER 1, FREELAND 0: Three teams in the Tri Valley Conference Red Division are expected to contend for the title – Essexville Garber, Freeeland and Frankenmuth. Two squared off Monday and it was Garber which won its fifth straight game and posted this 1-0 shutout of Freeland, a Division 3 Final Four team last year. Gsbrielle Aguirre scored a second-half goal and Natalie Fodrey recorded the shutout for the Dukes (5-0-0, 1-0-0), who recorded their third shutout of the season and second straight 1-0 decision. Two days earlier, Garber finished 3-0-0 to win the Bay County Tournament. 


BAD AXE 5, ELKTON-PIGEON-BAY PORT-LAKER 3: Maddie Jordan finished with a four-goal night and the HAtchets prevailed in this Big Thumb Conference showdown. Amber Brooks also scored in the 29th minute to put her team the lead for good at 2-1. Emma Bucholz, Jordyn Carter, Elie Ramsey and Reese Booms picked up assists for Bad Axe. (2-0-0, 2-0-0). Madison Fields recorded the win in net for the HAtchets. Olivia Delmotte, Ann Vega and Eva Zagorski notched goals for the LAkers. 


CLINTON 8, DUNDEE 0: Abrey Lauer finished the night with six goals and two assists, as the Redwolves posted the Lenawee  County Activities Association win over Dundee. Ashlyn Lehman added two goals and an assist, while Lauren Sherman, Kaylee Reiser, Mykayla Whitehead and Emma Pask. 


UTICA EISENHOWER 6, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 1: Gabby Gojcaj exploded for four goals and Eisenhower cruised to the MAC Red Division win. Ellera Jakubowski added two goals, Davyn Raymond added two assists while Julia Aniel, Gabby Riggio and Sonja Paterson picked up one assist apiece for the No. 2-ranked Eagles. 


STEVENSVILLE LAKESHORE 0, PORTAGE NORTHERN 0: These two sides settled nothing in this scoreless draw in SMAC play Monday in Portage. 


PLYMOUTH 9, DETROIT CASS TECH 0: Plymouth scored early and often in recording this non-conference victory Monday. 


YPSILANTI COMMUNITY 2, PINCKNEY 0: Ypsilanti Community picked up a rare win over the Pirates in SEC-White Division play.


CEDAR SPRINGS 3, LOWELL 0: Cedar Springs moved into the driver’s seat in the River Cities Alliance Conference with this shutout win Monday.
