GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Njeri Butts continues to climb the soccer ladder of success.
The current junior at the University of Florida, Butts is participating in a couple of friendlies with Peru for the Jamaica Senior National Team which will be competing later this year in some 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Butts, an outside defender and outside midfielder, is trying to earn a roster spot for those upcoming Jamaica World Cup qualifiers. Jamaica has friendlies set for Feb. 23 and Feb. 26 with both of those contests being contested at Estadio Alberto Gallardo in Lima, Peru, with Butts being on the rosters for both of those contests.
Butts, a native of Lawrenceville, Georgia, has been a contributor for the University of Florida for the past three fall seasons which was preceded by an accomplished career on the ECNL club circuit and high school playing surface while growing up in Georgia.
In the 2024 campaign with the Gators, Butts finished with three assists and three points for the 4-8-6 Gators. She made 17 appearance, starting one game, and logged 505 minutes. Amongst her totals were 10 shots and three shots on goal as a defender or wide midfielder contributing occasionally into the attack.
Butts, who will be a senior at UF for the fall 2025 collegiate season, helped the Gwinnett Soccer Academy 2004 to several successful seasons on the club circuit. Her Gwinnett Soccer Academy 2004 won an ECNL national title in the summer of 2019.
She was selected to play in the ECNL National Selection Game in both 2019 and 2020 and also helped her team to qualify for several national tournaments while in high school and middle school.
Butts also played a couple of varsity seasons at Lawrenceville (Ga.) Greyson High School, earning GHSAA Class 7A All-State First Team honors in 2021, while she earned several all-conference honors in ECNL and attended several noteworthy ID camps across the country between 2017-2022.
